Hi Binnur, I lost my sister-in-law's lemon cake recipe and my daughter has requested it for her birthday which is next week. I remember some of the ingredients: yogurt, eggs, flour, baking power or soda? oil, and lemon zest. I don't remember the measurements. Maybe you have a similar recipe that you can post. My husband and kids love it! My version is to bake it in a bunt pan and then filling the hole with fresh fruit. Then I make a lemon glaze with powered sugar, water and lemon juice that I drizzel over the top. Thanks for all your great recipes! My family loves all the recipes that I have tried so far. My daughter even made a little song for you...."What's for dinner? Ask Binnur?"

Hi Tammy:)
Thank you for the nice comment. I loved the song that your daughter
sings...please give her my best wishes for her birthday:) I only have one Lemon cake recipe. It might be the same as the one you had or not:) I understand you need it this coming week. That's why I am just writing it here for you. Your version seems so presentable and delicious:) I use whipped cream for top:)

6 egg whites
1/2 cup sugar

1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
6 egg yolks
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp lemon zest
1 cup yogurt
3 cups flour (cake flour would be better)
1 tsp baking soda
1 pinch salt

Mix the egg whites and 1/2 cup sugar until it's fluffy. Put aside.
Mix the butter, sugar, egg yolks, lemon juice, lemon zest and yogurt
in another cup. Slowly add the flour, baking soda and salt and mix.
Gently add egg whites in the sugar mixture and fold it. Pour it into
an oiled mold. Preheat oven to 400 F and bake until a toothpick comes
out clean.

I hope this helps:)

Merhaba Binnur,
I just discovered your website by chance last week and I think it's great! I am so impressed about your variety. No more worries about what to cook anymore. Thank you. Dear Binnur, I love to bake and am very good at it. However, I have been trying for years to create the perfect "Peynirli Kek" and never found the right recipe. You know the one that looks and feels like a cake and don't have a wet look when you cut it? The recipes with yogurt instead of milk sounds good. Do you or any of your talented readers have any recipe that I can use and finally accomplish this goal? If you do can you provide the measurements for Canada? Also what is the right amount of flour in "CUP" for "1 su bardagi" and what is the "gr. or cup" for "1 kucuk paket margarin"?
I appreciate your time, my best wishes and thank you,
Jan

Hi Jan,
Thank you:) I am going to post Peynirli Kek recipe in the future:)
On the right of the website there is a "Measurements" section. You will find all the answers you ask. 1 kucuk paket margarin, I believe, could be 125 gr?

Hi. I love your website. one of my Turkish colleagues made a syrup cake on Eid ul Fitr which was absolutely yummy. I dont remember the name but it was a syrup cake with black poppy seeds and a light green colour topped with sweetened fresh cream. Wondering if you would be able to match a recipe to my rather sketchy description. would love to try and bake it myself

Dear Binnur; love your site, it's helpful, interesting and quite tasty!

I was at a yard sale today and found a mould for a cookie. It looks like the amulet against the evil eye. It's carved from wood, and looks like a glorified spoon.

How do I use it? I like the shortbread recipe, can I use it with the mould?

Thank you very much! Be well,
David

Hi David,
There is another recipe that the carved wood spoon was used for. So I think you can use theTurkish Shortbread recipe:)

Hello What is the most popular sponge cake in turkey? Do turkish women make sponge cakes at home?

At 1:05 PM, Blogger Binnur said...

Hello,
Sure, they do:)
The Turkish cuisine has the seasonal kitchen. So they make the cake with
the fruits available in the season. It can be strawberry, banana, raspberry, etc.

Hi
I was wondering if you have a recipe for Kaymakli Lokum. I see lots of recipes on the web for standard lokum but none for lokum made with clotted cream. I suspect that this is a specialist recipe so not the kind of thing even a great Turkish cook would know how to make. But I live in hope and a part of the world where buying lokum is not an option.

At 12:22 PM, Blogger Binnur said...

Hi,

I have not posted any special recipes that belong to Ottoman and Turkish cuisine yet.

I am not sure I will ever post them; like lokum, kaymakli lokum, ekmek kadayifi etc.
I think we should keep some of the original recipes for ourselves for their protection:)
Take care,

Hello. I recently had a delicious coconut Turkish dessert and I have no idea what it is called. It was the size of a small cookie. It had a soft white coconut round center and it was rolled in coconut. I do not think it was Turkish delight. Do you know what this might be called and do you have a recipe that you might share? Thanks, Kathy
