Pilaf with Orzo

(Şehriyeli Pilav)

Pilaf with Orzo
3/4 cup long-grain rice
3 tbsp orzo (check the pasta aisle)
1 cup hot water or chicken stock
2 tbsp butter
1 tsp salt
Pinch pepper

Wash the rice several times with warm water and drain. Then cover the rice with hot water and leave for about 15 minutes, then drain. Place the orzo in a medium sized pot. Stir continuously on medium-low heat, until the colour turns light brown. Add the butter and rice in the cooking pot. Saute the rice with butter for 2-3 minutes while stirring. Pour 1 cup of hot water or chicken stock in it. Season with salt and pepper. Turn the heat to low. Cover and cook until the rice absorbs all the water.

Take the cooking pot away from the heat. Open the lid, place a clean kitchen towel across the top of the pot on the rim and put the lid on it. Let the Pilaf stand for about 5 minutes. We call this brewing time. Then serve.

I made this dish last night and it turned out great. The only thing I did different was soak the rice a little beforehand so that it would cook faster.

da recipe is super but the only thing is you should write how long it takes and the method for which would help us more and how many people it will serve!!!!!!!!!!

Hi,
I gave how long it takes to cook which is "when all the liquid has evaporated" this is the way how to cook Pilaf.
Pilaf with Orzo is a side dish so it depends the size of serving. Which is also important what is served with it. Was it steak or was it stew? So serving can be for 2 or 4 even 5 :)

Tariflerinize tesekkurler. Elli senedir kanadada yasadigim icin Turk yemeklerini bilmiyorum ve bildiklerimide ozluyorum. Your recipes are very easy to undersand. Mesela bu sabah toyga corbasi tarifini ararken dogme diye biseye rastladim, bunu google edince tabi bir suru tatoolar hakkinda linkler buldum yenilecek dovmenin ne oldugunu hala ogrenemedim fakat sizin tarifiyle yaptigim corba nefis oldu. Dövme, kabugu cikartilmis bugday demek. Belki burada aramak ihtiyaciniz olur, ingilizce karsiligi hulled wheat. Her hangi bir yemek tarifiniz olursa lutfen yazin, yardimci olmaya calisirim:)

I will try to make karniyarik tonight for the first time in my life (it s my husbands favourite, so no pressure there) and now I know how to put a nice meal together...

Hi Binnur,

i need your help with this recipe please because it does not say what happens to the orzo after it's color turns brown. the next step talks about adding the rice and butter to *a* pot (not *the* pot which makes it sounds like you are talking about a separate pot)then the next steps talk about the rice only no mention of the orzo at all. so, do we add the rice and butter to the same pot with the orzo? thanks a lot.

I am right now eating the pilav and writing to you. The pilav is just like the ones I had in Turkey.I had been wondering what those brown bits were and when I stumbled into your website, I realized that it is my favorite orzo. MasyaAllah.
