Cook the lamb first in a medium sized pot with 1 1/2 cups of water on medium-low heat. Check to make sure the lamb is done through. Then add in the rest of the ingredients along with another 1 1/2 cups of water. Cook for about 35 minutes on medium-low heat.

Should this be called lamb stew? You have lamb in ingredients but called it beef stew.
Hi Binnur
I am really hoping you can help me.
My ex brother in law is a Turkish Cypriot and use to make a dish with Lamb and onions.
He would use 2-3 onions finely chopped and put them in a saucepan (not sure if he used oil or not) and "sweat" them over a very low heat for at least 30mins before browning the lamb in a frying pan.
It looks similar to the recipe you posted above but the method and ingredients are different.
Can you help identify the stew because thats what he called it.
There may be variations to the recipes with the same name and slightly different from region to region. Therefore it is difficult to identify:)
Hi Binnur,
Not sure if you got my last request, but I want to surprise my Turkish/Kurdish husband with a recipe from home.
I'm not a great cook but will try anything once! He loves lamb or turkey but all I seem able to do is fry or casserole with onion & tomato.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!
