Potato Moussaka

(Patates Musakka)

6 medium-sized white potatoes, peeled and sliced 3/4 inches thick
150g medium or regular ground beef, cooked
1 small onion, sliced
1-2 garlic cloves, sliced
3 tbsp crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp red pepper paste
1 cubanelle pepper, chopped
1 tbsp butter
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 cups water
1/2 tsp crushed pepper/red pepper flaks (optional)
Salt
Pepper

Garnish:
1/4 cup parsley, chopped

This is a very easy recipe. Place the potatoes in a large, deep skillet. Then add all the ingredients in the above order on top. Cook for about 20 minutes at medium-low heat. Wait for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with some oregano and chopped parsley and serve.

Do you cook the potatoes before?
if not is there enough liquid to cook it in the pot?

Looks very simple and I'd like to try it.

Hi,
You will add all the ingredients at the same time and cook. So there will be enough water in the pot.

Hi,
Thanks for all your lovely recipes. I especially adore all your pastry and bread recipes, I’ve probably tried most of them and they all turned out lovely :)
I was wondering if I could try the onions and garlic prior to adding them to this dish and cooking them; and when cooking the beef, should I add salt and pepper to it?

Hi Binnur,

Your recipes are simple and just delicious. Do you cut the potatoes in round shapes or do you chop them in little cubes for this recipe?

Thank you,

Stephanie

This recipe is amazing! You put everything in the pot and it comes out perfect. I was worried about the onions and garlic but they cooked just right.
