Pilaf with Tomato

(Domatesli Pilav)

Pilaf with Tomato
1 cup rice, washed and drained
1 large tomato
1 tbsp butter
Salt

Grate the tomato. Add enough water to it so that you have 2 cups of the mixture. Pour in a medium sized pot along with salt and butter. When it starts boiling, add the rice. Cook on low heat with the lid half covered. When you start seeing holes in the rice towards the end, make sure to stir occasionally. Continue cooking until the rice is done, ie. when all the liquid has evaporated.

This recipe goes very well with all kinds of beans as a side dish.

* This is a vegetarian dish.

Sayin Binnur Hanim,
Tomato pilav was simply delicious. I have never cooked until about five years ago, to the delght of my wife, so, I am thankful for your wonderful site for the great recipes.
Also would like to share a tip. I have noticed that many of the recipes call for 2 Tbs of canned crushed tomatoes. I have found that if you pour the whole opened can in a lg. ice tray and freeze it than empty the contents in a freeze bag you'll have 2 Tbs of them ready whenever you need them with no waste.
Again thank you for a delicious site.
Tarlan

Thank you very much for this great recipe. I had to double the recipe, because I knew it was going to be great. I also added a little of crushed garlic, because we are crazy about garlic. The pilaf came out so good, the pot was gone in one sitting. Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to trying all of the recipes.
