Black-eyed Peas

(Borulce)

Black-eyed Peas
1 cup black-eyed peas
50 ml extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 cup hot water
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt

Boil the black-eyed peas in 3-4 cups of water until softened (about 20 minutes). Then wash and drain them. Put them in a medium-sized pot with the rest of the ingredients. Cook for about 20-25 minutes on medium heat. Give it a taste towards the end and add more sugar or hot water if necessary. Serve while hot with fresh bread.

* This is a vegetarian dish.

Hi Binnur,

I buy Borulce unshelled from the local bazaar in Turkey. Before cooking do you shell out the peas?

Hi Angie,
For this recipe we use dried blacked-eyed beans. But, if you like unshelled peas, you can give it a try. I think you purchased fresh
blacked-eyed beans (long beans). So you can make Long Bean Salad, here is the address:
