Eggplant Dish with Chickpeas
(Nohutlu Ic Patlican Yemegi - Adana)
Insides of the eggplants from Stuffed Eggplants with Beef (4 small eggplants)
1 medium onion, sliced
2 tbsp chickpeas, canned
2 tbsp red pepper paste
1 tbsp crushed tomatoes, canned
60 ml extra virgin olive oil
50 ml hot water
Garlic Yogurt Sauce:
1/2 cup plain Turkish yogurt
1 clove garlic, mashed with salt
Saute the onion with olive oil until softened in a small cooking pot. Then add the rest of the ingredients. Cover and cook at low heat until the eggplants are done.

This dish is aweome! Just like you said, "surprisingly good!"
This -- and all of the others on this site -- looks absolutely delicious! I can't wait to go home and make these beautiful foods!
can someone fix the ingredient list? This obviously does not call for only 1 tbsp of chickpeas. that would be about 3 peas. Same with te crushed tomato.
The recipe as such gives the desired taste. Therefore there is no point of changing it.
If you want to make a different kind of dish, you can play with the amounts or change the ingredients as you like:)
hi binnur :)
yhat was realy goog , I want 2 ask u , what is the meaning of Ic and Yemegi ??
thanks alot
Hi Mim,
Ic (ich) means inside which is the inside of eggplant (in this recipe) . When you make the stuffed eggplants use the inside of them to make this dish. Yemeği means meal.
Take care,
Thanks a lot :) and sorry 4 all the mistakes in my last comment !!
no problem:)
Hi Binnur
I love your book! It has made cooking for my Turkish husband SO much easier (I am Canadian, and also unskilled in the kitchen!)
I can not buy chickpeas in a can where I live. I can however, buy them dried. If I soak them overnight, will that be okay for this dish, or should I cook them for a while before adding them?
Hi,
Thank you:) You should soak them over night first. Then cook until they are tender. Now, you can cook the dish:)
hi,
you have not used salt??
Hi,
The dish has plenty of salt with the two tablespoons of red pepper paste in it that contains enough salt to season :)
This is so delicious! Thank you, Binnur!
Hi! How many servings is this recipe for? Thanks.
Hi,
1 or 2 servings depending on how much is going to be needed:) The main ingredients in this recipe are the inside of 4 small eggplants.
