Chicken with Potatoes
(Patatesli Tavuk)
4 pieces of chicken, dark and white
5 medium white potatoes
2 tbsp crushed tomatoes, canned
1 onion, sliced
4 garlic cloves, sliced
1/2 cubanelle pepper, chopped
1/2 red pepper, chopped
1 fresh green onion, chopped
60 ml olive oil
1/2 tsp crushed pepper
Salt
Pepper
For presentation:
2 Patty Shells (Tenderflake), frozen
Place the chicken in a large pot and cover with 2 cups of water. Cook for about 20 minutes at medium-low heat. Remove the foam from the surface with a spoon. Then add the remaining ingredients. Cook all together approximately for 20-25 minutes until the potatoes are fork tender. If necessary add a little more hot water.
Meanwhile bake the Patty Shells following the instructions on the box. Place them on a serving platter. Remove the tops with a fork and fill the shells with some potatoes and serve them together. You can serve this simple and delicious Turkish chicken recipe to your guests by adding something extra:)
Makes 2 servings.

I love this dish. However every time I make it, it looks more like a stew...( I don't mind, just extra juice to dip some fresh turkish bread in:) ) How much water do you usually have left over when the dish is done cooking?

Yeah, it is so good dipping Turkish bread in it, I love it too:)
With the measurements in the recipe, you should have some water left over. Were you using yellow potatoes maybe?
Yellow potatoes absorb more water and after cooking it looks like a
stew. I suggest you use white potatoes. Put an extra cup of hot water on the counter, and while the potatoes are cooking, check and if it is necessary add little by little:)

I just made your Patatesli Tavuk and it came out AMAZING! I was a little worried it would come out like a stew since the one post said they had that experience. I am thinking maybe I did not have the extra broth at the end because I had a nice solid lid and tipped it a bit to allow the steam out in the first 15 mins. Then, reduced the heat and completely covered the pot.... çok güzel!
The chicken was tender and moist. [I lightly browned them before I added the water. I must say the blend of potatoes,tomatoes,red pepper,onion,garlic,gr.onioin, and crushed pepper married well together; just enough bite to entice the most finicky eaters.
I just got engaged to my Askim in Turkey 3 weeks now! (Turkish= him & American= me). When there I learned some of the cuisine from "Benim Türk anne". I now am looking forward to sharing this recipe with her... and feeding her son, my Askim. ;-)
