Grape Jam

(Uzum Receli - Aegean Region)

Grape Jam
500 g green seedless grapes, washed, drained, stems removed, choose the smallest ones:)
1/2 of a red apple*, peeled, thinly grated
1 3/4 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
2 tbsp pine nuts, lightly roasted
Juice of half lemon

Melt the sugar, vanilla and water in a medium size pot. Add the grapes and apple, and cook for 45-50 minutes. Pour a drop of jam on a cold plate, if it is not runny and stays on, then it's done. Add the lemon juice and pine nuts, stir. After 2 minutes, turn the heat off. Place it into a clean jar, wait until it cools down, then close the lid tightly. Store in a dark and cool place.

This delicious jam belongs to the Aegean Region, like fig and mastic jam....

*Red apple gives the right consistency to the grape jam, otherwise it gets runny.

Thanks for this site Binnur! Just a question here: what is the difference between butter and unsalted butter? Is it the one we make at home or the one in packets which we buy from shops? Please help!!! (Thanks :)

Hi,
You can buy both of them in the stores. Butter is for the dishes ... Unsalted butter is mainly for the cakes, cookies and some pastries...

Good evening Binnur,

is there any special way you prepare the jars before you pour the jam into them?

anything like keeping them on the vapur in order to have them really clean? and what about the lids?
could you share your experience on this point, pls
Thanks

Hi Deria,
I always make small amounts of jam or marmalade. So they are all gone within few weeks:) When my dishwasher is ready to start I also put my jar in it and at the same time I put the pot on the stove to make jam. When my jam is cooked, the jar is ready to be filled:) It is all about timing! I put parchment paper than close the lid.
