Orange Cake
(Portakalli Kek)
4 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup cake & pastry flour
Zest of all 4 oranges
1 tbsp Orange Blossom Liqueur
Syrup:
6-7 large oranges' juice (~2 cups)
9 tbsp sugar
Loaf Cake Mold
Whisk the eggs and sugar with an egg whisker until foamy. Add orange zest and flour, continue mixing. Pour into the oiled loaf cake mold.
Preheat the oven to 375 F. Check with a toothpick to see if it's done, bake until it comes out clean. It takes about 45 minutes. Place the cake on the wire rack to cool it down. Meanwhile boil the syrup ingredients for a few minutes.
Slice the cake and place on the oven tray. Pour using a spoon the hot syrup all over the slices. Make sure the cake absorbs the syrup, if necessary make more syrup.
When you serve Orange Cake, squeeze chocolate Syrup (Smacker's Sundae Syrup) or home made Chocolate Sauce on top and sprinkle some pistachios. Keep the Orange Cake slices covered in the fridge. It is more delicious when cold.
Chocolate Sauce
6 tbsp cocoa powder
1 pinch salt
1/3 cup boiled water
3 tbsp unsalted butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 tbsp icy water
Put the cocoa, salt and boiled water in a pan and mix until it's paste-like. Turn the heat onto medium. Add the butter and sugar, and stir constantly. When the butter melts, cook for 8 minutes on medium-low heat, stirring occasionally. Add 2 tablespoons of icy water and stir. Put aside, let cool.

Merhaba, Binnur,
You have lovely table settings!!!
Really unique table coverings, place mats & plates!!!
Would you mind telling me where I might find the plates shown in this
picture?

Merhaba Gulacti:)
Thank you for all the nice words:) I bought this one from Winners. The
same store in the States is known as TJ Maxx. I am not sure if they'll have a home section but here they have a very large selection. When I first saw it, it reminded me my granny's "misafir takimi".. you know, the nice ones used for guests only. Her set was with burgundy flowers, but the motif of the edge is almost the same, I fell in love with it
suddenly:) I hope you can find it over there.....
Simdilik hoscakal, hugs.
Binnur
Merhaba, Binnur,
The recipe seems to be yummy, but can a slight alteration be made?I mean orange liqueur is not available in all Indian stores ,hence can I use orange squash in its place.
thanks
Merhaba Sunanda,
Just leave the orange liqueur out of it, you don't have to use it:)
Take care,
Hi Binnur,
This orange cake looks yummy! Do you mean cake flour or pastry flour? I don't know what cake and pastry flour is. Thank you. I just made your carrot cake and it was fantastic!
Hi Hasi,
It is sold under here the name of Cake&pastry Flour:)
Hi Binnur. Thanks for posting this.
I have a question, does " 4 orange zest" mean 4 table spoons or the zest of 4 oranges? I think it is 4 table spoons of orange zest but i just want to make sure.
thanks you :)
Hi,
It is going to be 'zest of all 4 oranges', not 4 tbsp orange zest:)
hi,
this cake recipe doesn't call for any butter or oil. is it possible to bake a cake without butter? please clarify, i want to make it as it looks very yummy.
thanks
Hi,
There is no butter or oil in it:)
