Apple Pie
(Elmali Tart)
Dough:
1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 cup sunflower oil
125 gr (1 stick) butter, unsalted, room temperature
3/4 cup icing sugar
1 tsp baking powder
2 3/4 cup (350 gr) all purpose flour
Filling:
4 Granny Smith apples, peeled, grated
4 tbsp sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup walnuts, crumbled
23 cm (9 inch) pie plate, oiled
Combine all the crust ingredients in a large bowl and divide in two. Wrap half in saran wrap and chill in the freezer for 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, spread the other half in an oiled pie plate with your palm equally. Also spread the dough on top of the edges (picture). Mix all the filling ingredients in a bowl, spread over the dough equally. Take the second half of the dough from the freezer and grate, then gently arrange over the filling.
Preheat the oven to 375 F. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until the crust is light brown on the middle rack. Immediately sprinkle some icing sugar on top using a small strainer after you take the Apple Pie out of the oven. Serve while still warm with ice cream on top:)

Hi Binnur,
In the ingredient list for the pie dough you list "powder sugar." But for the last sprinkle, you say "powderED sugar" which is what is in the photo. Do you mean granulated sugar for the pie dough ingredient, or do you really mean powdered sugar? I think the results would be different with the two different ingredients.
Thanks ... Mae
Hi Mae,
It is not granulated sugar. It should be powdered sugar. I changed it to be icing sugar to make it more specific:) With this you will be happy with the result:)
I have made this at least 2 times and it is really great. Very moist.
Thanks for the great recipes!
Seriously this is the best I've pie I've ever made, or tried! My family loves it too!
Thanks for an excellent site!
I didn't freeze the pastry but piped it on top, it worked very well. However the pastry on the base didn't cook/ was too moist. Delicious all the same.
Thanks
Jo
Hi jo,
I think there is something wrong with the dough that you made. The dough is not soft enough to pipe out:) The pastry on the base will cook with the correct measurement:).
Almost every oven has different settings. You may need to adjust the time or heat. A little bit more baking time or a little bit more heat:)
merhaba bunnir hanim
please i wannt to ask u if u bake this pie on the middle rack in the oven or on the lowest one?
the pie now is in the oven first i but it on the lowest rack so after 15 minutes the edges turned light brown so i changed the rack to the middel so i want to be sure about this point

Merhaba Sousou
Please, place the pie on the middle rack and bake until the crust is light brown:)
Sevgilerimle,
Selam, the right name for the sugar is 'confectioner's sugar'. :-) Thanks for all your great recipes!
Selam Sarah,
Thank you:)It is called icing sugar in Canada. It is called confectioner's sugar in USA:) Icing sugar and confectioner's sugar are both the same:)
Thanks Binnur, I had no idea about 'icing sugar' :-D Whatever you call it, the recipe looks great and I can't wait to try it out...my husband has been bookmarking different recipes on your page to try out [he's Turkish]. I'll let you know how the kitchen adventures turn out! Thanks for your wonderful, fool proof recipes :-)
Wow...this was a hit! Thanks so much!
Good morning from Greece. Thank you very much for your wonderful recipes. I made the baklava, which turned out great, and this excellent tart which all my family loved. We drank elma dogus cay that we bought in Komotini and it was a wonderful breakfast.
Thank you once again,
Eleni.
