Chicken Tandir
(Tavuk Tandir)
4 chicken pieces, legs and breasts, bone in, with skin
1 whole onion, peeled
1 tsp lemon juice
Salt
Pepper
Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper. Fry both sides of each piece for about 4 minutes in a large shallow pan. First fry the skin side down. After frying, arrange them skin side down in the pan. Pour the hot water to cover the pieces and turn the heat down to low. Add in the lemon juice and a whole onion. Cover but don't cover completely. After 2 hours take the lid off, remove the onion and turn the heat to just under medium. Cook until all the water evaporates which takes about one more hour.
Sprinkle some dry oregano on top and serve with any kind of Pilaf and lemon wedges on the side.
4 servings.

Hi Binnur,
This looks great! How much water should I pour over top? Should it cover the chicken, or is it ok if it is less?
Emel
Hi Emel,
Thank you:) Yes, the water should cover the chickens. If you use less amount of water you should turn the chickens few times at the beginning:)
Binnur, I made this dish a few days ago and it was absolutely delicious. My kids are picky eaters and they loved it and my son actually said this was the best meal I have ever made. They want me to make this all the time now.The chicken was so tender that the meat was falling of the bone.It just melted in your mouth.Thank you for the yummy recipe! You are the best!!!
Hi,
You made my day! Thank you:D
It's true, this chicken is amazing! It is so simple and I didn't think it would be anything extraordinary, but the texture of the chicken is like nothing I've ever had...I crave this recipe all the time!
hi binnur. what kind of oil or fat should use to fry the chicken? thanks a lot.
Hi,
You should start to fry the chicken with the skin side down so the fat will come off... no need to add any fat:)
