Tahini Helva Casserole

(Guvecte Tahin Helvasi)

Tahini Helva Casserole
400 g plain Tahini Helva (crushed sesame seeds) - Turkish Tahini Helva is sold in blocks. They come plain or with chocolate, or with nuts like pistachio. You can purchase some at Amazon, or at tulumba.com which is an online Turkish store.
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp butter, room temperature

Slice the helva with a knife. Then mash it with a fork while slowly adding the milk and butter.

Butter the inside of the earthenware pot (Guvec/Terra Cotta). Pour the mixture in it.

Preheat the oven to 400 F (200 C) and bake until the top is golden.

This looks delicious! I love helva, especially with pistachios, and if it wasn't for how good sesame supposedly is for you, I'd be eating way too much of it.

This looks like a very easy dessert, is the batter distributed between four separate earthenware dishes or one big? Do you suggest any accompaniments to this, like fruit or similar? I think I have to try this very soon.

Hi,
I love Tahini Helva, too. I can't get it out of my mind, especially winter time:D
You can use medium size guvec for this recipe or you can dived it into two small size guveces, it is up to you:) If you like you may add some hazelnuts in it. We Turks love to have any kind of helva like Flour Helva, Tahini Helva, Semolina Helva....after having any kind of fish meal. That's why my next post will be the fish:)
Take care,

Hi,
You can add pistachio or hazelnut in it. I don't know if it is the same recipe or not:) If you like you can serve it with ice cream on top. The cooking time can take 15-20 minutes maybe. Just check often if the the top of the helva is light golden:)

Hi Binnur. I commented on Pekmez Tahin and you replied that I wanted this one. So guess what. I found the Halva easily in the refrigerator case at an ordinary supermarket. Today is very cold in the Washington D.C. area, and I made it and it is great! Just for fun, I added a little pekmez for zip, and we will do it again. We bought the little terra cotta baking dishes in Cappadocia, and today felt we were eating well. Thank you much and Happy New Year.
